I have a 2008 Ford Focus (UK) with a 1.6 TDCi engine and 60K miles. check engine light shows and the red screen on my dash displays the "engine malfunction
Recently bought myself a MK3 Focus 1.6 TDCI.. The car has been driving fine but a engine light did appear with code P2033 which is reading as a exhaust gas sensor. The car still drive fine with this light on but today the car when into limp mode with 'engine malfunction' displayed o the car. Plugged it in and its reading code P1261 -Cylinder #1
ford focus 2012 1.6 tdci econetic had a loss in power and engine malfunction message & EML. Switch of engine and back on problem went. took to the garage and they did a software update. Problem fully disappeared. 2 months later same problem returns, all the same symptoms etc. Back to the garage, had a new water cooled EGR & Air mass flow sensor.
Car is a Ford Focus 1.6tdci Estate 2012(61), all was working fine until yesterday when the "Engine Malfunction service Now" message appeared. The start stop light is on and also a warning light on the clocks display that looks like a car with skid marks behind. Car also went into limp mode and I manged to get home ok.
It is usually a turbo actuator problem. As far as I can tell, the 1.6TDCI has a vacuum operated actuator, with no position feedback. (The 2.0TDCI & 1.8TDCI both have actuator position sensors). 27. Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi April 2008 - Engine malfunction light on car running in Limp Mode. hiace_drifter. In the 3 months since we've had out Focus TDCi, we've had an "engine malfunction" warning appear on the dash 6 times, always when doing 60mph+. The car loses power, but pulling over, turning off the engine and restarting seems to fix it (temporarily).
It looks a bit odd at 1494 sec, when the APP goes to 84%, but the FRP limits to about 1200Bar. Then the worst part is about 1597 sec. APP is 0, but FRP swings wildly up to 1800Bar. It does illustrate a limitation of this sort of diagnostics, it uses the same sensors as in the car.

I have a ford focus 1.6 Ti-VCT 2009. Yesterday i drove back from work about 5-6km when suddenly the beeper started to beep, car gauges suddenly sweeps (I was driving with 100km/h), many leds at dash was light up and there was the "Engine malfunction" message at dash . I pull over immediately and stop the engine.

I'll start from the beginning, I have a 2014 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi which I've never really had issues with service regularly etc. Since lockdown I've not really driven the car and about a month ago took it out and got the "Engine Malfunction service Now" message displayed and the car went into limp mode, I've had this once previously in 2018 and
I am not quite sure if the photo is the DV6 (your engine in a Mk2/2a 1.6TDCI) or the DV6c used in the Mk3 Focus, but the DPF location looks to be similar. I'm pretty sure all of the 1.6 TDCi's have a DPF by 2010.
Possible causes : An electrical fault in the Turbocharger control circuit. MAP sensor electrical failure. Inspect connectors for signs of damage, water ingress, corrosion, etc. If the code is set at idle renew the turbocharger. If the code is not set at idle investigate faults with the MAP. ===END DTC P2263:73-E8===.
